Lau Yat Wing Chun Academy is quite different from the typical strip-mall martial arts school. Located on a large wooded lot, the students train in a private environment with both indoor and outdoor training areas.
With a very limited enrollment, the emphasis is on quality rather than quantity. Because enrollment is limited, potential students must pass a formal interview and then must demonstrate their diligence during the first six months of training before being finally accepted.
Training at Lau Yat Wing Chun Academy is very thorough, with emphasis on detail and depth of understanding. In addition to developing proficiency in the Wing Chun system, students are trained to discipline both the body and the mind, and learn to coordinate them together as one. As they progress in their training, students gradually learn to apply their kung fu skill to all aspects of their lives.
Lau Yat Wing Chun is located at 616 Arnold Mill Road in Woodstock, Georgia, 20 miles north of Atlanta. Situated on a large private lot, the school provides multiple training areas, both indoors and outdoors. The school is a second home to the students, who use it both for training and for relaxing. The class schedule is as follows:
Monday 6:30pm – 8:00pm
Wednesday 6:30pm – 8:00pm
Saturday 10:00am – 11:30am
Chris Burke began his formal martial arts training in Korean Tae Kwon Do at the age of twelve. Shortly after earning his black belt, he left, seeking more serious training. After much searching, he learned of a selective academy headed by Jason Lau, one of the most well respected Wing Chun instructors in the world. At age 16, he was accepted as a student at the academy. After years of demonstrating his diligence and integrity, Master Lau selected him to become a disciple and gave him the name Lau Yat. As a disciple, he learned the most advanced aspects of Wing Chun and also began to teach the students. Ultimately, he became the academy’s chief instructor. He has been teaching Wing Chun since 1992. In 2004, he established Lau Yat Wing Chun Academy in Woodstock, Georgia.
